Pressgang Mutiny is a six-man ensemble from Toronto dedicated to spreading the tradition of sea shanties from all parts of the world. Their repertoire is comprised of a capella work songs sung on ships throughout the nineteenth century. The call and response form of the shanties was integral in enabling sailors to synchronize jobs in even the foulest of conditions. Come and hear strong harmonies delivered with energy and enthusiasm!
David Woodhead has certainly explored a lot of musical territory, performing and recording with many influential artists including Perth County Conspiracy, Garnet and Stan Rogers, Don Ross, Oliver Schroer, Brent Titcomb, Loreena McKennitt, Gil Scott-Heron, and Valdy. More recently he has been busy gigging with his own Confabulation band as well as Malagasy guitarist Donné Roberts, has done tours of the UK and Australia with James Keelaghan and stints with Nordic classical-folk fusion band Ensemble Polaris and veteran nine-piece jazz ensemble Manteca.
He’s also worked on many production projects for other artists and finds a little spare time to develop a distinctive approach to the ukulele. At the Wee Folk Club he’ll be joined by longtime partners Doug Wilde (Nancy White, Manteca) on keyboard and Bob Cohen (Jesse Winchester, Daniel Lavoie) on acoustic guitar and 8-string uke.
